I am an adventurer, looking for treasure
This is a poem about one’s quest for discoveries, written at MEST Africa and the journey I took getting here. Also highlighting everyday sail in search of everything you have. This poem was written by MEST Class of 2020 Entrepreneur in Training, Ifeoluwa Oderinde.
Behind the walls he searched for the familiar,
With within ransacked
I’ll crawl through, perhaps a ladder will do
Or should I break the walls?
The walls didn’t break; the ladder broke and left me with broken limbs
How did you manage?
.
Anyways I’m on the other side
Where it bustles with beauty and dreams
And songs sung with hope
There a citadel sits, where the lighthouse stand
Spare me a piece of silver
What? I need to barter fish
.
I hear of a place where treasure is buried
Can you point me to MEST?
Sorry I don’t know, it should be in the fort
Follow the light, follow the path shown
Can you spare me a piece of gold?
.
Do you need a new pair of sight?
To see the sky is blue or that the sun shines bright
Why lack amidst abundance
Pack your bags; let’s go to the fort
No, I can’t go
I just need a piece of silver to barter fish
All I need is a piece of gold
.
At the citadel, people came from near and far
All in search of treasure, All with dreams
All with broken limbs.
How did you manage?
I just never stopped trying
.
There the sage with gold-crested flowing gown
And beautifully gelled, gleamy glossy hair
Mend the broken with hope
Gathered us around, with fingers pointing to treasure and tales
And the light shone through our hearts
That’s where the real treasure is
Hold on to it.
